Default Diverging Storylines

Let me start by apologizing if this has been suggested before. I found nothing in Search, King Symeon's index, or the first few pages.

This suggestion is just a simple one. It's not fleshed out fully, but I think it would be great in a future chapter if the storylines of the players were allowed to diverge FROM THE START.

For instance, the level 20 characters coming to the new land would be on a completely different mission that is totally at odds with the characters created in the new chapter. Of course there would be a quest or something that would allow the incoming characters to ally with the native characters (if they so choose). Towns would be separated like how Aspenwood and Quarry are now, where you have a Luxon and Kurzick side. Only the ending would have to be the same, as in one side or the other 'seeing the light', or a compromise being made.

How it would work... and I'll use Factions as an example.

For characters created in Cantha, nothing changes. Shiro is back to harm their homeland and they are out to stop him.

For characters coming from Tyria... the spirit of a hero of old, wrongly slain and wrongly convicted (Shiro), needs your help to right the wrong done against him by the evil, wicked emperor and his descendants.

Essentially the whole game would have both sides working at odds until the end when, in this case, the Tyrians are like... "Woops... my bad. Let's kill 'im." and they join forces to defeat Shiro.

There would be like two shady looking dudes in Senji's corner or somewhere that would offer each side the chance to join the other side from that point out.

Basically, that's it. Maybe have a future chapter where Tyrians/Canthans/Nightfallians are out to stop the 'rebellious horde'. Meanwhile the 'rebellious horde' are like, "Dude... we're rebelling for a damn reason here." Eventually they work it out.

I like it only if u don't have to fight against other players in missions. I don't want to put mandatory pvp into pve. I think it would be cool to be able to overthrow an emperor or be the inavding force instead of the defending one.

I like the idea but the concept would take alot of over-hauling to fit in with the current system. Also the eventual convergance of the sides would make picking sides pointless. Kinda like the Kurz and Luxon thing. The only reason im Kurz is for the armor but ive done both befriending quests. so unless you make the conflicts out of the story-line (allaince battles), or the missions distant from one another (i.e. you dont compete against the other side ala Aspenwood) it really wouldnt work.

The missions could be distant from each other, because what one side does 100 miles away might heavilly affect the other side down the road. Also, for areas where they share a town, you'd only have access to the town for your side... like Town A (Invader) or Town A (Defender). Maybe it could even be like an Invader town may be an explorable area (yet still a town) for the Defenders, and they'd have to evade or fight off wandering Invader NPCs... but I like the split town better. It doesn't have to have any PvP, but I'd definitely like to see alliance battles, and maybe each individual town could be like a Aspenwood or Quarry, with the battles tallied hourly and the winners having access to the merchants and such. Again, it's not fleshed out fully, but I think the concept could add a bit more replayability to the game. EDIT: As for the final convergance, I don't really have an answer. I don't see how there could be two endings. Maybe there is a way, or maybe they fight to a draw... or just keep fighting, with the ending being more about your character than the world.

i think it's a good idea, but i like being able to insert my avatars into any campaign at any point in the progression of the story.

this is a key element to my overall experience in game,

another suggestion that i saw would have been alignment (good or bad) or just with conflicting NPCs in-game... but it would completely close-off portions of the game to your chars.. and that would drive me crazy.
